Giving back to the community is an important part of our mission. Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild volunteers, with our parish and non-profit partners, grow, harvest and donate as much as 8,000 pounds of fresh, local food every year for parish food pantries and non-profits that provide healthy meals for neighbors in need.
We start planting seeds in our historic greenhouse in the early spring and plant and nurture the garden throughout the summer and into the fall. Produce includes award-winning tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, brussel sprouts, squash, pumpkins, cauliflower and much more. We also have a diverse herb garden and, with the help of Casey Trees, have begun rebuilding the Monastery’s old fruit orchard.
Volunteer with Us
We have drop-in gardening hours for individuals, families and groups (no experience necessary) on Wednesdays and Saturdays in-season. We also can arrange times and projects for school, university and parish groups, area non-profits and others, who want to volunteer together.
All of the produce we grow is donated to the friars, local convents, parish food kitchens and non-profits serving neighbors in need.
