Potting Echinacea

echinacea_spring_2012On one of the coldest days of the year, the Garden Guild received a package of echinacea plugs that will be matured in the greenhouse over the coming months. We received three varieties to include Big Sky™ Sundown, Profusion and Pica Bella. These range in color from pale pink to a vibrant orange. Some of the echinacea will go on the grounds of the Monastery and others are destined for the plant sale. Hopefully the greenhouse will stay warm enough during these frigid days.

Transplanting Siberian Iris

bob_flynnThere is always something to do at the Franciscan Monastery. The garden guild worked on transplanting some beautiful blue Siberian Iris for the spring plant sale. The Iris came out of the front garden. We periodically thin the Iris to promote healthy new growth. Bob and Flynn worked hard transplanting and moving more than fifty pots.  We have more than 11 different varieties of Iris that grow throughout the gardens. These are just a few of the many treasures that can be found at the Gardens of the Franciscan Monastery.
