What we do

What we do

Historic garden & urban farm in Washington, DC

Our purpose is to preserve and promote the grounds at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land, and to support people in our community with produce grown on the farm, in keeping with the Franciscan tradition that God is revealed to us through his creations.

Food Donation

We grow, harvest and donate as much as 8,000 pounds of fresh, local food every year for food pantries and non-profits that provide meals for neighbors in need.

Honey Bees

FMGG maintains a number of beehives on the grounds. The bees serve the Monastery gardens and the surrounding area through pollination. That helps us grow our produce each summer.

Volunteer Opportunities

Come learn how to grow vegetables from seeds in our historic greenhouse in the early spring and plant and nurture the garden throughout the summer and into the fall. We have drop-in gardening hours for individuals, families and groups
