Join the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild for a soap-making workshop on July 18, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (includes a one-hour break for lunch on your own while the soap cooks).
This fun and informative workshop will include a brief history of soap making, proper procedures for handling lye, information on why it is important to know what is in your soap, properties of oils and fats that make a successful soap – AND a chance to make your own hot process traditional soap with tallow – or a pure vegetarian soap.
Cost: Just $25 for the day, which includes a bar of soap you make to take home (it will still be in a mold so it has time to mature).
Location: The workshop will be in the Monastery’s Sacred Heart Conference Room, near the gift shop, 1400 Quincy St. NE, Washington, DC 20017.
RSVP: To help us plan, please RSVP to gardenguild@gmail.com by July 17.
