Please join us for our annual Open House this weekend, Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m.-12 noon. Meet at the greenhouse, which is behind the gift shop.*
This is your chance to see behind the scenes of the Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild (and literally behind the monastery!). Visit our greenhouse, vegetable and cut flower gardens. Learn about our urban beekeeping program (our bees are an important part of plant growth), workshops and events, plus plans for a revamped herb garden.
You can ask our volunteers your gardening and beekeeping questions, and learn how you can volunteer.
The Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the care and preservation of the gardens at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in Washington, DC. Our newly expanded vegetable gardens last year produced 6,000 pounds of healthy produce for the friars, nearby convents and for homeless and low-income DC residents through partnerships with groups such as DC Central Kitchen.
*Directions to the greenhouse: The monastery is located at 1400 Quincy St. NE, Washington, DC 20017. To get to the greenhouse from the front of the monastery, follow signs to the gift shop and either go to the gate to the right of the gift shop entrance, or through the gift shop lobby and out the back door.
If you have mobility limitations, limited parking is available behind the monastery and near the greenhouse. Enter via the service driveway on 14th Street, just north of the monastery’s main entrance.
